Latest news from the swimming world; Swadesh Mondal of Bengal created his 4th national record at the ongoing 37th Sub Junior and 47th Junior National Championships in Bengaluru on Friday.
He fought for the first place as Shoan Ganguly of Karnataka gave a tough competition and secured a second place.
Swadesh was ahead of Shoan with the butterfly stroke, but after 200th m Shoan’s backstroke seem to be on his side as he became much faster than his competitor.
However, on the 300th m Swadesh did a breaststroke and took the lead finishing the competition in freestyle and clinching the gold within 4.34.15 minutes.
He made a new record after Advait Page’s national record of 4.34.76 created in 2018 in Pune.
Shoan secured second place finishing the race in 4.34.39 and took silver home.
Kalp S Bohra won the bronze medal with the timing of 4.43.05.
For other swimming matches, 100 m butterfly stroke group II girls –
Harshika Ramachandra – Karnataka – Gold Medal – 1.05.51 made a new record after Mayuri Lingraj’s national record of 1.05.98 was created in 2016.
Rishika Mangle – Karnataka – Silver Medal – 1.06.99
Pratishtha Dangi – Maharashtra – Bronze Medal – 1.09.56.
The championship has only one day remaining and Karnataka has bagged over 134 medals, Maharashtra has bagged 63 medals, TNSA has 38 medals and Bengal has 25 medals.
India is seeing talented and hardworking swimmers creating new records and we hope that more and more swimmers would qualify for the Olympics and gain international recognition making the nation proud.
