Rashtriya Janata Dal on Sunday announced their candidates for the by-poll elections in Tarapur and Kusheshwar Asthan assembly segments of Bihar, which is being seen as a rebuke to the Congress, their junior ally who also wanted to contest for one of the seats.
A press conference was conducted by the RJD president Jagadanand Singh, national general secretary Alok Mehta and state spokesmen Mrityunjay, in which the candidate names were announced, they were Ganesh Bharti and Arun Kumar Sah for Kusheshwar Asthan and Tarapur respectively.
These two constituency seats were won by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar JD have been obliged by the death of their officials.
Unlike NDA, who presented an image of solidity two days ago when leaders of all constituents announced the coalition of candidates, RJD are in alliance with five parties declared nominees only from their party.
The Kusheshwar Asthan seat of the Darbhanga district was contested by Congress in the assembly elections in 2020 and they lost it by a margin of 7,000 votes.
Congress didn’t come with a reaction to this development. However, sources confirm that they were planning to field Ashok Ram in the assembly polls or some close members of his family.
Sources from RJD said that the decision to contest both seats was because of the ‘dismal’ performance in the assembly elections when it fought for 70 seats and secured less than 20 seats. They were blamed by all partners for the grand 5-party alliance falling short of the majority.
