French Open: PV Sindhu, Satwik-Chirag enter quarterfinals

India’s Olympic champion and double Olympic gold medallist made it into the quarterfinals of the French Open badminton tournament with a straight win over Line Christophersen of Denmark in the women’s singles second round.

Sindhu was ranking third with 21-19 21-9 and Christophersen ranked 24th in the world after the match on late Thursday night.

Sindhu will face Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand today in the quarterfinals.

She had beaten Busanan at Denmark Open the previous week.

On the other hand, in Men’s doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won the match from Arjun and Dhruv Kapila 15-21 21-10 21-19 in an all-Indian faceoff and reached the quarterfinals.

They will play with the Malaysian pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik next.

However, Sourabh Verma from men’s singles couldn’t make it to the semi-finals after losing 12-21 9-21 to Kenta Nishimoto of Japan in the second round of the match.

Yesterday, spirituous Lakshya Sen made it to the 3rd round of the Super 750 event smoothly by winning over Loh Kean Yew of Singapore.
