Zydus Cadila agrees to bring down price of its COVID-19 vaccine to Rs 265 per dose: Sources

Zydus Cadila after negotiations with the government has decided to bring down the price of the COVID 19 vaccine to Rs. 265. The final deal is yet to be sealed, the sources said on Sunday.

ZyCoV-D is the 1st vaccine that is approved for children aged 12 years and above.
This vaccine is needle-free, and it is inoculated through a disposable and painless jet applicator. The price of each dose is Rs. 93. The total price of the complete 3 doses will be Rs. 358.

Previously, Zydus Cadila of Ahmedabad had proposed a price of Rs. 1,900 for all three doses.

The source stated to PTI that the company has brought down the price of the vaccine to Rs. 358 and a final decision for the same will be taken this week.
The 3 doses are inoculated in a time gap of 28 days and each dose is given in both arms.
The indigenously developed ZyCoV – D which is also the first DNA based and needle-free COVID 19 vaccine got emergency use authorization from DCGI on August 20.

On the other hand, the government is waiting for recommendations from NTAGI (National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation) to introduce ZyCoV-D for adults and children with co-morbidities.
After NTAGI provides a protocol and a framework for the vaccine, then the vaccination drive of ZyCoV-D can begin.
Official sources said that the cost of this vaccine and Covaxin, Covishield will be different as it is a needle-free vaccine and is given in 3 doses.
The pharma jet injector can be used to inoculate 20,000 doses. It penetrates the skin and then enters the cells of the body.
