Former Maharashtra minister of Home affairs Anil Deshmukh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) late on Monday.
He was arrested in connection to a money laundering case that also alleged an extortion racket,
According to the NCP leader’s lawyer, he will oppose his remand before the court today.
Deshmukh finally appeared before the Enforcement Directorate for the first time on Monday after skipping numerous summons for the past 4 months.
He was then arrested against the alleged 100-crore extortion and money laundering case.
According to an ED official, he was arrested after 12 hours of interviewing and questioning at the ED office yesterday.
The ED officials further added that Deshmukh was arrested under the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act).
The ED claimed that he was ambiguous during the questioning and the agency will ask for his custody after they produce him before a local court today.
Inderpal Singh who is the lawyer for Anil Deshmukh told the reporters they have cooperated with the investigation in connection to a case involving Rs. 4.5 crore. He further added that they will oppose his remand today in court.

Bombay HC had rejected Deshmukh’s petition on Friday that challenged the ED summons for him to appear for them.
ED had filed a case against the former Home Minister and others after the CBO booked him in a corruption case related to allegations made by Parambir Singh who is the Ex-police commissioner of Mumbai.
