On Saturday, the State Department said The United States had warned China over its pressure on Taiwan as the two powerful nations are waiting for their summit.
The Department stated that Antony Blinken, Secretary of State, spoke to Wang Yi, the Foreign Minister, and expressed their concern regarding the People’s Republic of China (PRC’s) continued exploitation of Taiwan, whether it is diplomatic, military, or economic pressure.
On Monday evening (Washington time), American President Joe Biden and Xi Jinping are scheduled to have a virtual summit.
On Friday, Antony Blinken and Wang Yi spoke regarding the preparations for the virtual summit.
It was reported that the secretary had urged Beijing to engage and help resolve the cross-strait issues in such a manner that it is peaceful and in the best interests of Taiwan’s people.
The relations of the two most prominent and influential economies of the world have deteriorated due to Taiwan’s issue but also over human rights, trade, and some other issues.
A number of incursions have been made by China’s military over the last month into the air defense zone of the island.
Taiwan has also been supported for its defense against Chinese aggression by Washington repeatedly.
Monday’s virtual summit is a great opportunity for the two countries to discuss how to work and responsibly manage the competition the two countries might see when their work of interest align in the same place, said the State Department.
Since the veteran democrat, Joe Biden has moved into the White House. Xi Jinping and Biden have talked over the phone twice.
Both the leaders have met before when Joe Biden was Barack Obama’s vice president and Xi Jinping was vice president to Hu Jintao.
It was expected before that the duo would meet earlier in Rome in a recent G20 summit but Xi Jinping had not traveled since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and hence decided to attend the summit through virtual means by the end of the year.
On Friday, Antony Blinken stated that he has repeatedly noted that the United States relationship with China is the most significant but also at the time most complex relation too.
