Former Maharashtra minister Anil Bonde, 59 others booked for inciting Amravati violence

BJP leader and Ex-Maharashtra Minister Dr Anil Bonde were arrested on November 15 for instigating the recent violence in Amravati. The Amravati Police arrested Anil Bonde and 59 other people that including the mayor and 9 other BJP workers, according to the reports of The Quint.

The police are looking for BJP leader Praveen Pote for the same case. According to the Indian Express reports, he is on the run. The reports also said that the police arrested them in connection with the November 13 riots that happened in the Kotwali area after BJP called for a bandh.

The march was organized in reaction to the protests that were staged to oppose the violence against Muslims in Tripura. Those rallying in the march pelted a stone in Pote’s residence, one was injured during the incident.

In reaction to this hiatus, Bonde and Pote had declared a bandh. More than 6,000 members of the Sangh Parivar with BJP workers, Bajrang Dal members were on the street that ensured that the bandh is strictly followed. Two shops were set on fire during the bandh that was run by members of the minority community.

The Amravati violence saw a brutal turn which led to a curfew on Saturday. The city is still under curfew until further orders are received for the same. The orders were issued by police commissioner Sandip Patil to avoid any unfortunate happening.

So far, 72 arrests have been made by the police and 26 FIRs have been registered across 4 stations of Amravati.
