In the UNSC, India has voiced concern & asked the World to hold countries providing safe haven to terrorists accountable.
Rajesh Parihar, First Secretary, India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, has categorically stated that India will continue to support & Strengthen efforts put by the United Nations to aid all of its member countries by providing strong financial support in counter Combat the Financing of Terrorism (CFT).
He added that India was always committed to the efforts of the United Nations against global terrorism.
First Secretary Rajesh Parihar further emphasised that expansion of terrorist cells & groups is the cause of major concern to the countries facing the continuous brunt of terrorism.
He requested & advised the International communities that all states or countries who are responsible for financial support to terrorist groups & providing them with physical safe havens to operate should be held totally responsible & accountable.
Addressing the United Nations, Security Council special Joint Meeting on Terrorist Financing Threats & Trends, also Implementation of the Security Council resolution number 2462.
Rajesh Parihar pointed out that despite all measures undertaken by the United Nations Security Council in implementing Resolution 2462 to counter Combat the Financing of Terrorism (CFT), the results were an eye-opener to the fact that in some countries, there is a definite lack of political will to implementing of the resolution.
Mr Rajesh Parihar, First Secretary, also categorically emphasised that the terrorists in recent times avail get a lot of support through the recent trends of financial & technologies.
Terrorist groups or cells exploit these technologies fully for collection and transferring funds, making it difficult for the authorities to track them down.
He explained that misuse of new technological advances like blockchain technology, virtual or cryptocurrencies, crowdsourcing digitally & also prepaid phone technological advances have made it very difficult for the counter combat of financing terrorism (CFT) efforts put in to track down & stop the terrorist cells.
Resolution number 1373 passed by the Global Implementation Survey, which was adopted by the CTC & the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), stating jurisdictions of high monitoring did not turn up to mark due to actions not taken by one of India’s neighbouring countries.
Mr Parihar once again underlined the complete support to the United Nations Security Council’s efforts against global terrorism.
He added that if all countries with a multilateral approach to the CFT should identify all terror-financing risks of their particular regions resulting in strengthening support to the FATF.
The countries should also ensure, he said, to bring their counter financing structures on an equal basis with the international standards on the highest priority level.
