Just a few days after PM Narendra Modi announced to repeal the three farm laws, hundreds of farmers gathered at Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow Eco Garden today for a mahapanchayat.
This meeting is organised by SKM (Samyukta Kisan Morcha) which is an umbrella organisation of the farmers’ union who are fighting with the government for the infamous three laws. The SKM put up their 6 demands after the announcement, check the full story here.
The farmers are not ending their protest until their 6 demands are met and a legal entitlement is not implemented regarding MSP. Rakesh Tikait, the spokesperson of BKU (Bhartiya Kisan Union) said that the farm reforms that are discussed are false and it will not end the suffering of farmers. The biggest reform for farmers will be a law that will guarantee MSP (Minimum Support Price)
The mahapanchayat began at 10 am and an elaborate security arrangement was prepared for the same, said Lucknow Police Commissioner D.K. Thakur.
Sukhvinder Singh, father of Gurvinder Singh who was one of the farmers who got killed in the Lakhimpur Kheri incident said that he will attend the mahapanchayat. Rakesh Tikait then reached Eco Gardens in Lucknow around 11 am for the Mahapanchayat.
The SKM will go ahead with ‘Sansad Chalo’ as scheduled on November 29 to mark the one year of anti-farm law protests. They announced in the Mahapanchayat.
