Parliament Winter Session Day 2: Opposition MPs Walk Out of RS After Chairman Naidu Refuses to Revoke Suspension of 12 MPs

On Monday, 12 Rajya Sabha MPs were suspended which was the first day of the Winter Session of Parliament. The Indian National Congress and the 13 other opposition parties are looking for options to boycott the entire winter session of Parliament. The 12 RS MPs were suspended from the session for their unruly conduct in the Monsoon session of August 2021.

After the decision was taken, the opposition floor leaders met at the office of Mallikarjun Kharge who is the leader of the opposition for Rajya Sabha. They discussed the suspension issue and the parties are considering skipping the entire winter session, continuing their protests, disrupting the proceedings were also discussed.
The opposition was also unhappy that the 3 farm laws were repealed without and discussion under a rushed voice vote in both Houses. They are protesting for a discussion.

Congress’s AR Chowdhury said that they have staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha. 12 Opposition members were suspended from Rajya Sabha, and they are staging this to support them. After Chairman Naidu refused to cancel the suspension on 12 MPs, the Opposition MPs walked out of Rajya Sabha.

Opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge requested Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu today morning on behalf of the opposition stating that the incident happened in the Monsoon session so why is the government making the decision now. He then requested the chairman to revoke the suspension of the MPs.

The Parliamentary Winter Session was adjourned at 11.15 pm and it will resume at 2 pm in Lok Sabha. Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu said that the terrifying incident at the Monsoon session is still a fresh memory. He said that they were waiting for the leaders to take responsibility for what happened last Session but it didn’t happen hence he had to cancel the request to revoke the suspension.

In the winter session today, PM Modi held meetings with Rajnath Singh, Narendra Singh Tomar and Amit Shah to discuss the strategies for the ongoing winter session.
