The continued protests forced the government to withdraw the 3 controversial agricultural laws. After more than a year, the large tractors, protesting farmers were seen going back to their home state on Saturday morning.
The farmers lifted the blockades at Tikri, Singhu and Ghazipur borders. BKU Executive Member, Manpreet Singh said that they have won this protest after a year-long movement and they are happy that the central government has agreed to fulfil their pending demands. He added that they are packing everything and will return to their homes at 9 am today.
Why did the protests end?
After the Parliament passed a bill to repeal the 3 farm laws on November 29, the farmers had a list of demands that still needed their attention, including a legal guarantee for MSP.
However, the Centre accepted the pending demands and the SKM (Samyukta Kisan Morcha) announced to end the protest on Thursday stating that all the farmers will head back home on December 11.
