Time magazine’s ‘Person of the Year’ is Elon Musk, yes the Tesla CEO was named as the Person of the Year for 2021, a year when his car company became the most valuable carmaker in the world and his rocket company SpaceX is reaching new heights in space with an all-civilian crew.
Elon Musk, who is the founder of SpaceX and CEO of Tesla, also leads a brain-chip startup Neuralink and infrastructure firm ‘The Boring Company’. Tesla’s market value touched 1 trillion dollars (roughly Rs. 75.8705 trillion) this year making it worth more than Ford Motor and General Motors combined.
Tesla has been successful in producing thousands of cars every year and they were also successful in overcoming their supply chain issues better than their competitors. They also encouraged many young consumers to switch to electric cars and eventually shift their focus to EV vehicles.
Time Magazine’s editor in chief, Edward Felsenthal talked about why Elon Musk was chosen as the person of the year, he mentioned that he successfully ‘created solutions to an existential crisis and driving society’s most daring developments and transformations. He also talked about Musk’s space venture SpaceX and his 1st historic solo transatlantic aeroplane flight over the Atlantic.
From dropping tweets on cryptocurrencies, meme stocks and voting on selling stocks of Tesla and hosting Saturday Night Live – he has triggered massive movements dominating the headlines with a following of over 66 million on Twitter.
According to TIME Magazine, ‘The Person of The Year’ is someone who affected the news the lives of people for better or worse. They named teenage pop singer Olivia Rodrigo as ‘Entertainer of the Year’, American gymnast Simone Biles ‘Athlete of the Year’ and vaccine scientists as ‘Heroes of the year’. In 2020, Vice President Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden were jointly given the award of ‘The Person of the Year’.
Time magazine began this title in 1927. Meta CEO (previously Facebook) Mark Zuckenberg and Amazon ex-CEO Jeff Bezos have also received this title in the past.
