Hours After Alleged Lynching at Golden Temple, Another Man Thrashed To Death in Punjab’s Kapurthala Over ‘Sacrilege Bid’
Within hours after a man was allegedly beaten to death at the Golden Temple, Amritsar, another young man was reportedly beaten by Sikh devotees for ‘disrespecting’ Nishan Sahib (the Sikh flag) in Punjab’s Kapurthala district. The incident happened at 4 in the morning at gurudwara in Nizampur on Sunday. As per various reports, the man was killed by the locals after a brawl with the police.
Several videos went viral after the incident that showed the man was beaten with sticks. He was then rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
After the incident, Gurudwara’s caretake Amarjit Singh said when he came for his daily prayers at 4 am, he saw the young man disrespecting Nishan Sahib. He quoted Times of India that when they made eye contact; he tried to escape in the dark but was caught after some time.
The police chief of Punjab tweeted in this regard:
I have taken serious note of the unfortunate incidents in Amritsar and Kapurthala. Any attempt to violate the communal harmony in the state will be dealt with a firm hand.

This was the 2nd incident that took place in Punjab within 24 hours. On Saturday evening, a man was allegedly beaten to death after he tried to insult the sacred Guru Granth Sahib at the Golden Temple.
The young man was from Uttar Pradesh, on Sunday he entered the restricted area and tried to pick the sword kept in front of the Guru Grant Sahib. He was then caught by security and handed over to the SGPC (Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak) office where he was beaten to death.
The BJP has appealed to Union Minister Amit Shah to convince Punjab CM Charanjit Channi to hand over the case to the CBI.
According to the police officials, the young man was beaten brutally by a mob and locked up inside a room in the gurudwara while local police were trying to obtain his custody. After the police team arrived at the scene, led by SSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, a member of the mob stabbed the man with a sword, they said.
Police have registered a case under IPC section 295A related to deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings and said they would also probe the killing.
