Bank Holidays For January 2022: Banks To Remain Closed For 16 Days | Check Full List

The New Year is just around the corners and so is the new month. January is the month of new beginnings, and if you are planning to visit the bank for your year beginning important work, then you must check out the holidays so that you can get your work done seamlessly.

The RBI (Reserve Bank of India) has released a list of holidays for January 2022. According to the list, the bank will remain closed for 16 days in total for different states. The holidays will vary from one state to the other. Check out the full list of holidays here!

  • January 1: New Year’s Day (National holiday)
  • January 4: Losoong (Holiday in Sikkim)
  • January 8: 2nd Saturday
  • January 11: Missionary Day (Holiday in Mizoram)
  • January 12: Swami Vivekananda Birth Anniversary
  • January 14: Makar Sankranti/Pongal (Holiday in most states)
  • January 15: Uttarayaana Punyakaala Makar Sankranti Festival/Maghe Sankranti/Sankranti/Pongal/Thiruvalluvar Day (Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu)
  • January 18: Thai Poosam (Chennai)
  • January 22: 4th Saturday
  • January 26: Republic Day (National holiday)
  • January 31: Me-Dam-Me-Phi( Assam)

Today is Christmas, so the banks are supposed to be closed today as well for this national holiday. Amid the COVID 19 pandemic, the banks have seen a tough time as well just like any other sector. However, they are back and fully functioning for their customers. Recently, a nationwide protest against the privatization of banks was held on December 16 and 17. Many national banks like SBI, RBL and PNB were a part of it. In those two days, some customers faced issues while they went to the bank that day due to the protest.
