Ludhiana Court Blast: Man Killed in Explosion Identified as Dismissed Punjab Cop, Tattoo Helped in Identification, Says Report

The only man who got killed in the Ludhiana district court blast was identified as former Punjab Police Head Constable called Gagandeep Singh who was dismissed in 2019. He was dismissed after he was booked in a case of drug smuggling, said, police officials. As per the police report, the deceased was identified by the tattoo on his arm and a mobile phone was found at the blast site.

Gagandeep Singh, 30, was a resident of Khanna in Ludhiana. He was dismissed in 2019 with his connections in a drug-related case 2019. Punjab Police earlier suspected that the man killed in the blast was trying to assemble or plant the explosive. Singh’s family in Khanna identified him, the report said.

The SIM card of the deceased’s phone helped the police to identify him. The explosion happened in the court complex on Thursday, killing Gagandeep Singh and injuring 6 others. Check the full story here.

Ludhiana Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar stated that they are investigating important leads that can prove useful in cracking the case. Police had earlier said that their investigation led them to believe that the deceased was probably the carrier of the explosive or a human bomb himself. Singh had a religious tattoo on his arms.

Kiren Rijiju, Union Law and Justice Minister visited the Ludhiana district court on Friday. He said that the Centre and the state will work together to ensure strong action is taken against the organisation that has tried to disturb the harmony of Punjab and the whole country. He said that the central and state agencies are conducting in-depth investigations of the incident.

The body of the deceased was sent to the civil hospital late on Thursday night for post-mortem. Rijiju said that the Government of India should have a common voice on such a sensitive issue, reacting to a question asked about some political leaders in Punjab speaking different opinions on the incident. He said, “It is unfortunate. We are responsible persons, we should speak responsibly.”

He further added that politics should be the last thing that should matter here. The safety and security of judicial complexes is the government’s priority. He said that multiple review committees are already in place and he would also speak with the Chief Justice of India about it.
