BIG NEWS: Religious Leader Kalicharan Maharaj arrested after remarks against Gandhi, Islam

A Hindu religious leader called Kailcharan Maharaj was arrested in Madhya Pradesh’s Khajuraho for insulting Mahatma Gandhi and praising his assassin, Nathuram Godse today.

His controversial speech at ‘dharma sansad’ in Raipur, Chattisgarh led to the chief patron Mahant Ramsunder Das walking off the stage in fury and disowning the event. Kalicharan was charged with instigating hate between communities after Pramod Dubey filed a police case.

Raipur senior police official Prashant Agarwal confirmed that Kalicharan was arrested.

Chattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel said that Kalicharan Maharaj’s family and lawyer are informed about the arrest and he will be presented in court today itself.

Kalicharan had booked a guest house in Khajuraho but didn’t stay there, he instead went to a rented house 25 km away from Khajuraho to distract the police, a police source said. The police have been looking for him since the day a case was filed against him. To escape from the police, his close aids switched off their phones, sources said. Today morning, a team of 10 police officers finally tracked him down and took him back to Raipur.

In his speech – videos of which are going viral on social media, Kalicharan Maharaj declares that the main focus of Islam is to capture the nation through politics. He also declared “Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi destroyed the country… salutations to Nathuram Godse, who killed him”.

He also urged people to elect a ‘staunch Hindu leader’ and protect Hinduism. After this offensive speech went viral on social media, Congress leader Pramod Dubey filed a case against him.
