Alia Bhatt Starrer RRR Makers Face Loss of Rs 18 Crore on Promotions After Covid Delays Release

Just when the theatres were finding their audience back, it seems like they have to shut down again. With the arrival of the Omicron variant of COVID 19, the rising cases have been increasing the worry of different states as they have started imposing lockdown like guidelines and night curfews to control the variant.

Theatres in many cities are shut down that didn’t come as good news to the latest Telugu movie RRR starring Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Jr NTR, Ram Charan and the movie is directed by SS Rajamouli.

RRR was scheduled to release on January 7, however, the increasing COVID 19 cases across the country and restrictions on theatres have led the makers to postpone the release.

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, around 18 to 20 crores were invested to promote Rajamouli’s much-awaited movie. He was confident about releasing the movie during this time and was supported by everyone crucial to the movie, including the producers and the actors. However, when the situation started to get worse, he had to step back. With spending more than 18 crores on promotion, the yield will be null with the postponement. The budget also included Rs 2-3 crore expenditure for Ram and Tarak who were travelling out of Andhra for promotion.

The cast of RRR was seen in various reality shows and interviews with news channels for promoting their new movie. They appeared on shows like Bigg Boss (Hindi, Telugu), the Kapil Sharma Show etc.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the director said that the 2 leads of the movie didn’t have a large fanbase outside Andhra. For making the marketing events and promotions huge in Mumbai and other cities of India, Andhra fans were flown to these cities and were kept in luxury hotels. In return, all they had to do was applaud and whistle for their favourites.

On the other hand, a Mirchi9.com report claims that Ram Charan and NTR are very ‘depressed’ with this news and are not meeting people after the film’s postponement. However, the actors or directors didn’t express their views online about the delay of the movie release.

The movie was about to be released on October 13, 2021, previously that was delayed to January 2022 due to COVID 19.
