The popular ‘Bulli Bai App’ cases that have been making the headlines are exposed and the people who were working behind the notorious app. Mumbai Police successfully detained a 19-year-old woman Shweta Singh who is alleged to be the mastermind of the app from Uttarakhand.
This detention comes a day after the Mumbai Police held a 21-year-old engineering student Vishal Jadhav (21) from Bengaluru in connection with the controversy that started on January 1. The Bulli Bai app circulated photos of several Muslim women coming from a variety of streams like journalists, social workers, students and famous personalities, they were posted as ‘available for booking’.
Another student was arrested in connection to the case today by the police, he was identified as Mayank Rawal (21) from Uttarakhand, a police official said.
According to the reports, the woman will be produced before the local court where Mumbai Police will seek her transit remand to take her back to Mumbai. An official said that Shweta Jain and Vishal Jadhav will be confronted with each other.
The Mumbai Police had registered an FIR against the unidentified persons against this app that was hosted on the open-source software platform GitHub.
Although there was no ‘auction’ or ‘sale’ of people in the app, it intended to do so. The purpose of the app seemed to humiliate and harass certain sections of women, many of them of who are active social media users.
The app was promoted by a Twitter handle @bullibai with the display picture of a Khalistani supporter. It was also promoting Khalistani ideologies on Twitter.
Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha member Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote to Mumbai Police after which the case was lodged by the Mumbai Police.
