Should you take Paracetamol after COVID 19 jab? – Bharat Biotech advises not to take it, Here’s why

Vaccine makers Bharat Biotech on Wednesday said that citizens who are taking Covaxin must not take Paracetamol after the jab, especially teenagers.

Bharat Biotech said that they have received feedback that some immunisation centres are recommending citizens to take 3 paracetamol 500 mg tablets along with Covaxin for children. However it is not recommended for children, they added.

Bharat Biotech said that through its clinical trials, among 30,000 individuals, approximately 10-20 per cent of them reported side effects. They said most of them got resolved in 1-2 days and didn’t need any medication.

They also said that paracetamol was recommended for other COVID 19 vaccines and not Covaxin.

COVID 19 vaccination for children has begun from January 3 for the age group of 15-18 years. In the first three days, over 1.06 crore children have received their first jab.

Maharashtra is seeing a surge in cases with over 797 Omicron cases. With the sudden surge of cases, the Maharashtra government have issued guidelines to shut down schools from Class 1 – 9 and Universities/ colleges till February 15.
