Will Lockdown Happen in Mumbai? Maharashtra Health Minister says CM will take final decision, Know all details here

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state with over 67,31,871 positive COVID cases. Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that the decision of a complete lockdown in Mumbai will be taken by CM Uddhav Thackeray. His statement came after Mumbai reported 20,000 fresh Covid cases. Earlier, BMC chief IS Chahal said that the civic body will consider additional COVID 19 restrictions if daily cases go over the 20,000 mark.

Maharashtra saw a rapid surge in COVID infections for the 10th consecutive day. The COVID 19 count shot up sharply from 26,538 on Wednesday to 36,265 on Thursday.

Talking to NDTV, Rajesh Tope said that the state is studying the number of COVID cases carefully and the final decision will be taken by CM Uddhav Thackeray.

On Thursday, the state health department had said that they are not considering any lockdown currently. Maharashtra government will consider it if the oxygen demand goes beyond 800 metric tonnes a day or more than 40% of COVID beds in hospitals are occupied.

They also informed that the COVID 19 cases will take a peak in mid-February and may go back to normal by mid-march.

The Omicron variant that came in December month in India has been seeing new cases every day, Yesterday around 500 omicron cases were registered but today it was as low as 370. Currently, there are over 3,000 Omicron cases in the country. January is seeing a new rise in COVID cases and possibly a 3rd wave but is it as severe as the 2nd wave of COVID 19? The vaccination has surely helped to reduce the death count but yet we have to be careful about it.
