BIG NEWS: Centre Extends Deadline for Filing Income Tax Returns Till March 15 | Details Here

The Central government on Monday extended the deadline for Income Tax Return deadline to March 15. This deadline was extended due to various difficulties faced by taxpayers while filing for ITR on the website. Previously many citizens reported the technical glitch while filing for ITR due to which the deadline was extended to December 31, 2021.

As mentioned, this is the 3rd extension given to corporates for filing the ITR for FY 2020-21. The CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes) said in a statement that considering the technical difficulties faced by taxpayers and other stakeholders, it was decided to extend the ITR deadline and other reports of audit for the Assessment Year 2021-22.

The deadline for the tax audit report is February 15, 2022. The last date for filing 2020-21 ITRs without penalty for individual taxpayers ended on December 31, 2021, and around 5.89 crores ITR was filed by this due date.

Along with the technical glitches faced by taxpayers, Nangia and Co LLP Partner Shailesh Kumar said that the fresh surge of COVID cases in the country is another reason the government extended the deadline.
