BREAKING NEWS: Samajwadi Party releases candidates’ list, Akhilesh Yadav to debut UP polls from Karhal
Samajwadi Party’s Akhilesh Yadav will contest his first Assembly election from the Karhal seat in Mainpuri district, the party announced while releasing the candidates’ lists.
The EC (Election Commission) will be holding a meeting today to review the COVID 19 situation in UP and take a decision on whether or not there should be a ban on rallies and mass gatherings. Political parties are requested by the EC to host virtual and digital campaigns amid the surge in COVID 19 cases across the state.

The candidate list of the Samajwadi Party comes a day after the nomination papers were filed for phase one of elections for 58 assembly segments in 11 districts of western UP. The poll panel also announced filing nominations for Phase 2 polls in 55 assembly constituencies of 9 districts.
Party sources had given this information a few days back but today this news was confirmed by Mr Yadav’s uncle and Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal Yadav who had said his nephew would win the elections with record votes.
Karhal is just 5 km from Saifai, the Yadav family’s home village.
Akhilesh Yadav is currently a Member of Lok Sabha from UP’s Azamgarh and this week he said he need to ask his constituents for ‘permission’ to give up the seat if he wins this election. UP elections will occur in 7 phases that will begin from February 10 and the results will be out by March 10.
