BIG NEWS: All Schools in Maharashtra except Pune to Reopen Today, Govt Says Not Compulsory For Students to Come
All schools for classes 1 to 12 are all set to reopen in Maharashtra except Pune from today. This decision was taken after the COVID 19 situation was improving in the city. Schools were shut again after the COVID 19 cases started to see a rapid surge due to the 3rd wave of the pandemic.
Maharashtra’s Cabinet Minister Aditya Thackeray on Sunday said that parents have a choice whether or not they want to send their children to school. Their consent will only allow students in the school.
“Even though we are re-opening schools from tomorrow, it is not compulsory for students to come to school. Parents are free to make their own decisions in this regard and should send their children to school only if they feel it is safe,” the Shiv Sena leader said.
Maharashtra Health Minister had said that a lot of thought has been given to this decision. He added that physical classes are extremely crucial for children’s brain development and it was not right to keep them at home for so long.
He said that although the cases are increasing, since the past few days the ICU beds are 90 to 95% vacant. The minister also informed that 90% of eligible citizens have taken the first dose of the COVID 19 vaccine and 60 – 65% of them have taken the 2nd dose.
No decision on resumption of offline classes at Pune schools yet
Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar on Saturday said that no decision is yet taken for reopening schools in Pune as the cases are reaching new highs.
The COVID 19 situation will be reviewed next week after which a decision will be taken whether the city should open schools or not.
