Republic Day 2022: History, significance, why the day is celebrated | read here to know about it

While India obtained independence from the British Raj in 1947, it was not until January 26, 1950, that the Indian Constitution went into force, declaring India an independent state and establishing it as a republic. Dr BR Ambedkar chaired the Constitution’s Drafting Committee. Furthermore, every year on November 26, India commemorates Constitution Day, as the Constituent Assembly of India enacted the Indian Constitution on that date in 1949.

Republic Day is commemorated with great fanfare across the country. The yearly parade, which begins on Rajpath in Delhi and concludes at India Gate, is the major attraction of the Republic Day celebrations. On this day, the President of India hoists the flag at Rajpath in New Delhi. The ceremonial event also highlights India’s cultural and social legacy, as well as parades and airshows by the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force.
