Lata Mangeshkar, the legendary singer, is showing signs of progress and has been removed off the ventilator as a trial, according to her family’s most recent health report. Ms Mangeshkar, 92, has been at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since early January after testing positive with COVID-19. According to the family statement, which was shared on the singer’s official Twitter account, she will remain in ICU and under observation. Dr Pratit Samdani is treating Lata Mangeshkar for COVID and pneumonia; her family previously stated that she has moderate COVID symptoms and was admitted to the ICU as a precaution due to her age.
The update on Lata Mangeshkar’s health stated that Lata didi is still being treated in the intensive care unit at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. This morning, she was offered a TRIAL of extubation (being taken off the invasive Ventilator). She is now showing indications of progress but will be monitored by a team of experts led by Dr Pratit Samdani. We appreciate each and every one of your prayers and well wishes. Lata Mangeshkar’s family tweets frequent updates on her health and warns against spreading rumours about her status. Earlier this week, there was a tweet that said: “Lata Didi’s health is improving somewhat, but she remains in the intensive care unit. Please avoid spreading rumours or falling victim to strange communications about Didi’s health. Thank you very much.”
Smriti Irani, a politician and former actress, earlier issued a family appeal to stop speculating about Lata Mangeshkar’s health.
Lata Mangeshkar, who has received the Bharat Ratna among other honours, is the voice behind some of Indian cinema’s most popular melodies. She has sung in a number of languages and is also known for her patriotic song Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon.
