Amitabh Bachchan’s bodyguard, a Mumbai cop, has been suspended for violating rules

An official in Mumbai said on Wednesday that a policeman who had worked as a bodyguard for superstar Amitabh Bachchan till August 2021 had been suspended for suspected misbehaviour and breach of service regulations.

Jitendra Shinde, the constable, was suspended on Tuesday, and a departmental investigation was launched against him, he claimed.

Shinde was formerly assigned to the Mumbai Police’s protection and security division.

He served as Amitabh Bachchan’s bodyguard from 2015 to August 2021, when he was suspended by Mumbai Police Commissioner Hemant Nagrale after it was revealed that his annual wages were reported to be 1.5 crores.

Shinde was assigned to the DB Mar police station in Mumbai from August 2021.

When questioned why Shinde was suspended, a top Mumbai Police officer stated that the policeman had travelled to Dubai and Singapore at least four times without alerting his superiors.

According to the service rules, he should have gotten permission from his superiors to travel overseas, he said.

Shinde allegedly formed a security service in his wife’s name to provide security to the Bachchan family, but the fees were recorded in his bank account rather than his wife’s, according to the official.

Shinde had also acquired several properties that he had not declared, he noted.

Following Shinde’s suspension, the Mumbai police commissioner formed an investigative group led by Dilip Sawant, Additional Commissioner of Police (South), according to the official.

Amitabh Bachchan is given ‘X’ category security, which consists of four police constables providing him with security in two shifts.
