WhatsApp is working on Document Preview for Images, Videos on Android: Report

WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will show the full preview of images and videos that are shared as documents in Android. It is called ‘Document Preview’ that will display a large preview of the image/video sent over WhatsApp. Currently, this feature is available for PDF files only.

When you send WhatsApp images/videos just the way it is, it compresses and decreases its quality. Hence, you can send it in document format so that you don’t compromise the media’s quality.

This new development was first announced by WhatsApp Beta Tracker WABetaInfo. This new feature is rolled out in the beta version 2.22.5.11. on Android. The update says that “WhatsApp is planning to enable the image preview in the next few updates”. It means the new feature will be available for a larger audience in a few weeks. Until then the preview will be only available for PDF files. Check out how the preview will look like:

As you all know, WhatsApp compresses the media’s quality when you share it in media format. So you can retain the original quality of the media by sending it in a document format. It is not the first time WhatsApp is working on the preview feature. Last year it had rolled out updates for larger and bolder previews for links that are shared in the app.

With this preview, it will be easier for users to identify which photos or videos they are sending. Previously it was very difficult to track what was sent and what wasn’t.
