According to the Cricbuzz report, around 70 matches of IPL 2022 will be held in Maharashtra across 4 different venues. The 4 venues are Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai and MCA International Stadium in Pune. Around 55 matches will be held in Mumbai stadiums and 15 stadiums will be held in the Pune stadium.
The report said that the 10 teams will play 4 games each at the Wankhede, DY Patil and three games at Brabourne & Pune.
There are 2 tentative start dates of IPL 2022. The official broadcaster of the league – Star Sports wishes to start the matches from March 26 while the BCCI had suggested March 27.
The reason behind Star Sports insisting on March 26 as it is a weekend (Saturday) and hence beginning the league on 26th will give them the momentum for the league and a good audience on Sunday which won’t be possible if the league starts on Sunday and Monday won’t garner the audience until it is a national holiday.
In either case, the tournament is all set to wrap up on May 29 (Sunday). The venue for the playoff matches is not yet decided. A final decision on the venues and dates will be taken today in the IPL governing council meeting.
IPL 2021 was held in UAE and the audience was allowed to watch the match, this time the game is back in India and with the COVID 19 cases declining, there is a high chance that people will be allowed in the stadium to watch the match live.
