IPL 2022 Update: IPL announces 2 groups, matches to begin at THIS date, Check details

As per the latest reports, the format of the IPL 2022 has been revealed. The 10 teams will be playing in 14 games. Each group will play with each other twice with 5 times and once with 4 teams. The BCCI made this big announcement on February 25 (Friday).

The BCCI announced that the 2 groups are based on a seeding system based on the IPL titles won by the teams and the number of final appearances. Hence, the popular and the most winning teams of IPL – MI and CSK will headline the 2 groups. The two new teams Super Giants and Gujarat Titans are placed in 2 different groups.

Here is how the 2 groups are divided

Group A Group B
MI CSK
KKR SRH
RR RCB
DC PBKS
LSG GT

Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants are placed in Group A. At the same time, Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans are part of Group B.

Matches to begin from March 26

This format is very different from what was used in IPL 2011, there were 10 teams even that time. In 2011, the groups were divided in a way that each team played twice against the teams of their group and once against the other 4 groups.

However, this time it is taking a different route. IPL 2022 will start on March 26th and end on May 29. Check the locations of the matches here.
