Around 5,476 new Covid cases in India, with 158 deaths | Read Here

With 5,476 patients testing positive for coronavirus infection in a single day, India’s overall number of COVID-19 cases surged to 4,29,62,953, while active cases fell to 59,442, according to figures provided on Sunday by the Union Health Ministry.

The death toll increased to 5,15,036 with 158 new fatalities, according to figures updated at 8 a.m.


For 28 days in a row, the daily COVID-19 instances have been fewer than one lakh.

The active cases account for 0.14 percent of all infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has risen to 98.65 percent, according to the ministry.


In the last 24 hours, the active COVID-19 caseload has been reduced by 4,436 cases.

The number of persons who have recovered from the sickness has risen to 4,23,88,475 with a case fatality rate of 1.20 percent.


The total number of doses provided in the country as part of the statewide COVID-19 immunisation effort has surpassed 178.83 crores.

On August 7, 2020, India’s COVID-19 tally surpassed 20 lakh, followed by 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16. It reached 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and one crore on December 19. Last year, the country passed the two crore mark on May 4 and the three crore mark on June 23.
