Happy International Women’s Day 2022: Women who became the ‘firsts’ in their field in 2021!

We wish all the ladies out there are very happy International Women’s Day! International Women’s Day is celebrated every year today i.e. 8th March. This year the theme is #BreakTheBias. On this occasion, we have compiled a list of successful women who were first in their field in 2021.

  • Mary W Jackson: NASA’s first African American female engineer

NASA formally renamed their Washington DC headquarters after Mary W Jackson, their first African American female engineer and NASA’s best talent. She began working for NACA (forerunner of NASA) in 1951. NASA administrator Steve Jurczyk said in 2021, “With the official naming of the Mary W. Jackson NASA Headquarters, we ensure that she is a hidden figure no longer.” “Jackson’s story is one of incredible determination. She personified NASA’s spirit of persevering against all odds, providing inspiration and advancing science and exploration. ”

  • Bhawana Kanth – The first Indian Air Force woman pilot who took part in the Republic Day parade 2021

Flight lieutenant Bhawana Kanth became the first fighter pilot who took part in last year’s republic day parade. She is also the first female pilot in the Indian Air Force. Kanth expressed her gratitude for being a part of the parade in 2021, she said “Since my childhood, I have been watching Republic Day parade on television and it’s a matter of pride that now I’m participating in it. I would love to fly other fighter jets, including the Rafale and Sukhoi. ”

  • Chloe Zhao – The first Asian woman who won the Golden Globes Best Director Award

Director and Filmmaker Chloe Zhao became the 1st Asian woman to win the Golden Globes director award. She was rewarded for her exceptional work in ‘Nomadland’ and she was nominated among 2 other women directors Regina King and Emerald Fennell.

Many other women have been successful and did something as a first in their community and the list is endless. It’s not just on a global level, but at a personal level, women have done things they never tried before and became successful. If you are reading this, all the women are proud of you, for you have achieved something never possible.
