It had come as a great shock after Suresh Raina couldn’t secure a place in the IPL 2022 this year. Fans were disappointed when the news broke that no one vouched for Raina in the auction who used to be ‘Mr IPL’ in the game. There was a lot of speculation that Raina may replace Jason Roy in Gujarat Titans, but that didn’t work out too.
However, there is finally some good news for Raina fans. The former India and CSK southpaw will be a part of the commentary team in IPL 2022 along with Ravi Shastri. According to a report in Dainik Jagran newspaper, Star Sports have reportedly taken Raina in the Hindi commentary team.
“You all know that Raina won’t be a part of the IPL this time but we somehow wanted to link him with the tournament. He has a massive fan following and there is a reason why he is known as Mr IPL. As for Shastri, he was part of the Star Sports English commentary team. But he didn’t commentate after the final of Champions Trophy in 2017 as he became India’s head coach,” an IPL source said while speaking to Dainik Jagran newspaper.
Ravi Shashtri has mostly worked with English commentary during his post-cricketing career. Hence he is taking Hindi zoom lessons from an expert and practising commentary rehearsals ahead of IPL 2022 which is going to start on March 26, 2022.
