Today the world celebrates ‘Tuberculosis Day’ to raise awareness about the serious bacterial disease that has impacted several individuals over the years. This day helps people to talk more openly about tuberculosis and create awareness of the treatment of the disease.

The theme of World Tuberculosis Day 2022


The theme of World TB Day 2022 this year is ‘Invest to end TB. Save lives.’ The theme focuses on investing in TB treatment to eradicate the disease. It also aims at bringing the attention of global leaders to fulfil the forgotten commitments and fight this disease.

History of World TB Day


World TB Day was first recognized in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch had announced the discovery of the bacterium that causes tuberculosis. It was later observed by WHO and the Royal Netherlands Tuberculosis Foundation in 1995 that World TB Day should be marked on March 24.

In 1996, KNCV, WHO, the IUATLD, as well as other concerned organizations, joined to conduct a wide range of World TB Day activities.


Significance of World TB Day

Tuberculosis has taken over 66 million lives since 2000 and with the deadly COVID 19 pandemic, it has become even more important to focus on TB treatment to save as many lives as possible.


World TB Day aims at facilitating the organizations working on combating the disease all around the world.

Symptoms of TB

  1. Coughing for more than 3 weeks
  2. Production of phlegm along with the blood during continuous coughing.
  3. Fever, chills, loss of appetite, weight loss
  4. Abdominal pain, seizures, joint pain, and headache.
  5. Night sweats and chest pains are also experienced if a person has TB.
