Users of Jio, Airtel, and Vi can breathe a sigh of relief as DoT ordered the removal of all COVID-19 caller tunes and announcements
If you’re having trouble dealing with the Covid-19 message that replaced the standard caller tune two years ago, there’s some good news for you. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has ordered that the pre-call Covid-19 notifications be removed from all telecom providers in the nation.
Since Covid’s outbreak, the caller theme has been changed with Covid-19 alerts to raise awareness of the pandemic and encourage people to be vaccinated to help stop the spread of the fatal virus. However, the administration feels that the purpose has been sold now that the Covid cases have been resolved.
As per a PTI report, the DoT has directed all telecom carriers in India to stop using COVID-19 pre-call announcements and caller tunes. Because the pre-call messages were overloading the network and delaying calls by many minutes, the telecoms department decided to eliminate the covid-19 caller tuning message.
Before instructing telecom carriers to stop making Covid-19 alerts, the communications agency requested authorization from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Vodafone, Reliance Jio, and other telecom carriers were urged to replace the standard caller tune with the Covid 19 caller tune in 2020. In March 2020, the caller tunes were replaced with covid awareness announcements. Previously, the Covid-19 caller tune would begin with the sound of individuals coughing and sneezing, followed by a warning about the measures one should take to avoid Covid.
