PAN – Aadhaar can be linked till 2023, but there’s a catch, Know more here

The CBDT recently announced that even though the deadline for linking PAN and Aadhaar card is gone (March 31, 2022), people can still link it but there will be a penalty.

Previously, the PAN card was supposed to become invalid after March 31, 2022, if it was not linked to the Aadhaar card but now the deadline is extended to 2023.

“To minimise the inconvenience to the taxpayers,” the apex direct taxes body said in a statement, “a window of opportunity has been provided to the taxpayers up to the 31st of March, 2023 to intimate their Aadhaar to the prescribed authority for Aadhaar-PAN linking without facing repercussions.”

However, starting April 1, 2022, if you link your PAN card with your Aadhaar card by June 2022, you have to pay a penalty of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 if you link after June month.

The government has delayed the PAN – Aadhaar linking for the 4th time. The previous deadlines were July 31, August 31, and December 31, 2017, and the most recent deadline was March 31, 2018.

Over 16.65 crore PANs, out of a total of about 33 crores, had been linked to Aadhaar as of March 5, 2022.
