Government has banned 18 Indian and 4 Pakistani YouTube channels for spreading fake news; check full list
On Tuesday, the Indian government blocked 22 YouTube channels. According to an official statement made by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, all of these stations were disseminating false information, the majority of which was connected to the country’s national security.
Furthermore, according to PIB, three Twitter accounts, one Facebook account, and one news website have been prohibited throughout the nation as a result of the new IT Rules. According to the I&B Ministry, this is the first time that Indian YouTube channels have been blocked under the new IT Rules of 2021.
As per the official statement, these YouTube channels were exploiting TV news channel logos and thumbnails with deceptive content. Some of these YouTube videos were also alleged to be exploiting photographs of prominent news anchors to deceive viewers and make these videos appear real and reputable, according to an official statement from the I&B Ministry.
According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, 18 of the 22 restricted YouTube channels originated in India, while four were from Pakistan. The majority of the videos released by Pakistan-based YouTube channels were anti-India.
