Is booster COVID 19 shot mandatory for travellers? SII CEO Adar Poonawalla explains, Read Here

Serum Institute of India’s CEO Adar Poonawalla indicated that he has asked the government to roll out booster doses for frequent travellers, “We’ve appealed to the govt as everyone who needs to travel needs to take the booster dose. They’re having an internal discussion and might announce a policy on booster soon,” said Poonawalla in the ‘Alternate Fuel Conclave.’

Adar Poonawalla said that they are expecting a positive response from the centre and that SII has enough stock for rolling out booster doses. He said that the other countries have already started their booster dose vaccination campaign in full fledge and that it’s time for India to start it as well.

He also appreciated the Centre for covering almost the entire adult population with 2 doses of COVID 19 vaccine. He quoted to India Today, “Till now, the central government has done a fantastic job. PM Modi’s government has already covered the entire adult population with two doses, and now the time for the booster has also come. The SII has appealed to the government and I am sure that a positive response will come”.

When he was asked whether a 4th COVID 19 wave will come to the country or not, as predicted by IIT Kanpur, he said even if it comes, it will be mild. The experts have also stated in their prediction that there is no scientific, epidemiological or virological reason to predict a 4th COVID 19 wave. However, no one can predict the exact future of this virus.

He was also asked if vaccines will work on the new COVID 19 vaccines, he answered that it will be effective if a booster dose is taken, “Our vaccines have proven better than those in other countries. Look at the US and Europe, they have a lot of cases. In India, we have fewer cases because we chose the right vaccines,” he said.
