World Health Day is celebrated today, i.e. April 7th every year. It is celebrated following the WHO’s aim to discuss and create awareness about various health-related issues concerning people around the world.
The 1st World Health Day was celebrated in 1950. This date was passed in WHO in 1948 in the First Health Assembly, hence it also marks the anniversary of WHO after it was established in 1948.
The World Health Organization was established in 1945 at the UN conference. A motion was passed to create a new and independent organization that is solely dedicated to discussing health topics.
This year, WHO is aiming to create awareness about Earth’s health. The theme is ‘Our Planet, Our Health’, indicating the ongoing pandemic and growing pollution on the planet, chronic diseases like cancer, asthma and heart diseases.
World Health Organization aims to focus global attention on the urgent actions needed to “keep humans and the planet healthy.”
World Health Day has become even more significant now than ever. The COVID 19 pandemic has opened our eyes, even though for a short while that how easily life can slip away from us.
