A 200TB solid-state drive is being developed and will most likely be available by 2022

Storage solutions are among the most important components of computing. While cloud storage appears to be the preferred option for most users these days, there is still a huge need for solid-state drives for storing big amounts of data. To ensure that these SSDs never fall short of a user’s requirements, a business is planning to develop a 200TB SSD shortly.

To put this in context, this is double the amount of storage available on the greatest capacity SSD on the market right now. ExaDrive’s EDDCT100 3.5-inch SSD delivers a mind-boggling 100TB of storage for $40,000 (about Rs 30.4 lakh). Nimbus Data now intends to break its own record with a 200TB solid-state drive, which is slated to be released later this year.

The assertion was made by the company’s CEO, Thomas Isakovich, in an email exchange with TechRadar Pro. According to the story that follows, the business is already working on the successor to the 100TB SSD and expects its 200TB SSD to give superior speed and energy efficiency in addition to the bigger capacity.

At least, that’s what Isakovich claims. The CEO even states that the business expects to complete its development and release it to the market by 2022. Having said that, Isakovich does not go into detail about the unusual solid-state drive just yet. So we’ll have to wait for a while to find out the exact capacity of the production unit and its related pricing.
