Soon, Uber users will be able to book flight tickets instead of just booking a cab. Yes, you heard that right, Uber UK is running a pilot program where they are trying to include flight bookings and bus bookings along with cab bookings, CNBC reported. They also added that if this pilot program works, then it will be implemented in other countries as well.
However, Uber will not provide these travel services, it will act as a medium and collaborate with companies who sell flight and bus tickets.
The tech giant, which may take a cut on each booking, said it plans to announce various partners in the coming months. They said that integrating with different travel companies will boost their app usage in the UK. The UK is one of Uber’s largest markets outside the US.
Jamie Heywood, Uber’s head in the UK, said in a statement that Uber hopes to become “a one-stop-shop for all your travel needs”.
“You have been able to book rides, bikes, boat services and scooters on the Uber app for several years, so adding trains and coaches is a natural progression,” he said. Tata Group recently launched an app with similar services, Know more here.
Uber has not yet disclosed which ticketing platforms they are collaborating with, however, they might be working with major travel aggregators like booking.com and Expedia.inc
