Booster dose or precautionary dose of COVID 19 vaccines bookings for all adults (18+) begins tomorrow at private vaccination centres, the Union Health Ministry announced on Friday.
“It has been decided that the precaution dose of Covid vaccines will be made available to the 18-plus population group at private vaccination centres. This facility would be available at all private vaccination centres,” the ministry said.

According to the statement released by the ministry, those who have completed their 9 months of 2nd dose of the COVID 19 vaccine can apply for the precautionary dose. However, this dose will not be free like the 2nd dose except for healthcare workers, frontline staff and those above 60. The ministry added that the inoculation program for all the 3 doses will be accelerated.

The 3rd dose will be of the same vaccine as the 1st and 2nd one. Mixing vaccines have been proven successful but it is not yet allowed in India.

Visit the CoWIN portal (www.cowin.gov.in) or visit the Aarogya Setu App. You can book your appointment through them after signing in through the registered mobile number and Aadhaar card.
How much is the cost of the booster dose?
After the announcement, SII CEO Adar Poonawala said that the cost of a precautionary dose of the Covishield vaccine will be Rs 600+taxes.
“End-users will pay Rs 600 for the booster dose and the hospitals will get at a discounted price,” Poonawalla said in a statement.
He also added that once Covavax is approved as a precautionary dose, it will cost Rs 900+ taxes.
