WhatsApp is working on a feature that will prevent media from being saved automatically in the smartphone’s gallery or camera roll when the disappearing chats option is on. However, users will be able to save media manually in the disappearing chats.
WhatsApp was also spotted working on new image editing tools on the latest beta version of the iOS app.
WhatsApp has begun introducing new changes with the ways media is saved on disappearing chats as per reports by WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo. If your WhatsApp is up to date, you will see a message talking about the ‘media visibility’ feature that is turned off for chats with disappearing messages enabled. This feature was first spotted in February.
When you will tap on the media visibility settings in disappearing chats, now it will show you a pop-up notification that informs users, “For privacy reasons, media is not auto-saved to your phone’s gallery. To save media from this chat, turn off disappearing messages,” the notification says. NDTV’s Gadgets 360 confirmed that the feature was disabled in chats where disappearing messages were enabled, on the latest versions of WhatsApp for Android and iOS.
WhatsApp is also working with its drawing tools as seen below. They are adding 2 new pencil drawing tools that you can see at the bottom of the media editor. A blur tool is also added to the bottom of the media editor. It is visible to only a few beta users now.
