7th Pay Commission: Review updated Dearness Allowance (DA) rates for central government workers

As per the Department of Expenditure, the centre has announced updated rates of the dearness allowance (DA) for central government employees. The revised tariffs will go into effect on January 1, 2022.

Dearness Allowance rates have been revised for employees of the Central Government and Central Autonomous Bodies who continue to draw their pay in the pre-revised Pay Scale/Grade Pay as per the 5th Central Pay Commission, the Department of Expenditure stated in an office memorandum dated April 7, 2022.

The DA for such employees has increased from 368 per cent to 381 per cent.

Dearness Allowance rates have been changed for workers of the Central Government and Central Autonomous Bodies who continue to draw their pay in the pre-revised Pay Scale/Grade Pay as per the 6th Central Pay Commission, as mentioned in the office memorandum of the Department of Expenditure.

The DA for such personnel has been increased from 196 per cent to 203 per cent.

Earlier this year, on March 30, the union cabinet commanded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi enhanced the DA for central government workers and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners from 31% to 34% of basic salary or pension to “compensate for price growth.”

The raise was in accordance with the established methodology, which is based on the 7th Central Pay Commission’s recommendations.

On October 21, 2021, the DA and DR were increased from 28% to 31% of the basic income or pension.

Previously, on July 14, 2021, the DA and DR were raised from 17% to 28%.
