Mumbai Indians don’t seem open their account in IPL 2022 anytime sooner. Losing their 5th match, they failed to chase a target of 199 against Punjab Kings on Wednesday. MI had the advantage as they were bowling first but the target seemed to be too much for them as they fell short by 12 runs.
After their defeat, MI has to suffer another blow as they couldn’t complete the over in the given time. The MI skipper was first fined Rs 12 lakhs for slow rate against DC (Delhi Capitals) and with the 2nd loss, the fine amount totalled Rs 24 lakhs. Rohit Sharma can also be banned for a game if MI fails to complete 20 overs in time.
Other MI players were also fined for slow over-rate, IPL mentioned in their press release, “This was the team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences. Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 24 lakhs and the rest of the members in the playing eleven were fined Rs 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of their match fee, whichever is lower,” Check the complete press release here.
After losing 5 matches, MI is slipping down on the points table. They lost to Delhi Capitals before losing to Rajasthan Royals and then KKR, RCB.
Will MI come back after facing this fine and losing 5 matches? The next MI match will be against LSG (Lucknow Super Giants) on 16th April at 3.30 pm.
