The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is going back to its old exam format for the next academic session. Sources from the Ministry of Education were quoted by the Indian Express that Class 10 and 12 board exams will be held in single-exam format.
For 2021-2022, CBSE had divided the board exams into 2 terms. Term 1 exam was held from December 2021 to January 2022 and CBSE Term 2 exam was conducted from April 26 to June 15.
- Unlike this year when the syllabus was divided into half, the students will have to study the entire syllabus like before for their board exams in the upcoming academic session.
- The official said, “CBSE never announced that the two-term exam format will be continued henceforth. It was a one-time formula. Now that schools are functioning at full capacity, the decision, for now, is to stick to the one-time exam format,”
- CBSE decided to follow the old format as all schools are now teaching students physically, hence they stated that the exam format should also go back to how it was.
- “While the board exams for Grades X and XII will be continued, the existing system of the board and entrance examinations shall be reformed to eliminate the need for undertaking coaching classes. To reverse these harmful effects of the current assessment system, board exams will be redesigned to encourage holistic development,” the official told The Indian Express.
An official announcement from the CBSE is yet to be made regarding this issue.
