After rolling out emoji reactions like Instagram, Meta-owned WhatsApp is going to add an option where you can hide your ‘Last Seen’ status from specific contacts. With the latest beta version of WhatsApp in iOS, it has added this feature, WhatsApp tracker WABetaInfo reported.
As we all know, the last seen feature tells when someone has checked WhatsApp and potentially seen your messages. However, if their read receipts are switched off, you can’t see a user’s last seen.
WhatsApp has given you the ability to hide your status from specific contacts which is seen in the app as ‘My Contacts Except’. You can also switch it to all contacts or disable the feature.
Similarly, WhatsApp iOS beta version 184.108.40.206 has a new ‘My Contacts Except’ option under the Last Seen section of the app’s privacy settings. According to the WhatsApp tracker, adding an individual to the list will prevent you from seeing their Last seen status as well.
The tracker also said that WhatsApp is experimenting with many other privacy controls for both profile photos and about sections. As it is already being experimented with iOS’s beta version, it will be soon available for both Android and iOS users publicly.
Currently, if you want to hide your Last seen status from people, you have to switch your read receipts off. In this feature, you can’t see anyone’s last seen or who has seen your WhatsApp story. This feature will allow users to be more selective about their contacts and who they want to show their last seen.
