Vivek Agnihotri’s new film slammed by Maharashtra Sikh Association, Director said THIS in reply, Read Full Statement
After the massive success of The Kashmir Files, director Vivek Agnihotri announced his next film, THE DELHI FILES. On Monday, the Maharashtra Sikh Association released a statement saying that the filmmakers should “desist from disturbing the uneasy calm in society”.
The Kashmir Files was one of the biggest hits of the year and it sparked a lot of controversies as well. The film bagged Rs 200 crore despite it being filmed at a budget of Rs 25 crore.
Vivek Agnihotri announced his new project last week, The Delhi Files. The theme of the movie is yet to be revealed. There are speculations that it will be based on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. However, the director hasn’t confirmed anything yet.
I thank all the people who owned #TheKashmirFiles. For last 4 yrs we worked very hard with utmost honesty & sincerity. I may have spammed your TL but it’s important to make people aware of the GENOCIDE & injustice done to Kashmiri Hindus.Advertisement

The Maharashtra Sikh Association released a press statement and expressed their “strong reservation against the exploitation and commercialisation of unfortunate tragic chapters of humankind like the Sikh riots by people in the name of creative expression and personal profiteering”.
Reacting to the statement, Vivek Agnihotri told news agency PTI that he will make a film based on how his “conscience” guides him, without revealing the subject of the film.
“I have no idea which organisation is this. I’m an Indian, I live in a sovereign state which gives me full right to express myself in whichever manner I want. I will make what I need to make, what my conscience tells me to make. I am not a servant to anybody’s demands or organisations,” The Kashmir Files director said.
He said that he has not yet announced what the film is about and why he is making it, yet he is being questioned about it. He shared that the final decision lies with the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) to decide what kind of film must be released.
In 2021, a web series called ‘Grahan’ was released on Disney+ Hotstar that revolved around the anti-Sikh riots of 1984. It is one of the most underrated web series which is based on a Hindi novel called ‘Chaurasi’.
