Amidst the rising inflation, basic essential commodities are seeing price hikes one after the other. Just a while back, the prices of milk saw a new high and now personal hygiene products are seeing the same fate. In a fresh round of price hikes, the FMCG (fast-moving consumer goods) major HUL (Hindustan Unilever Limited) have raised prices of personal care products by 2-15%. The distributor sources said that the price of a multipack of 125 gm of Pears soap has raised by 3.7%. Check the full list here.
- Sunsilk shampoo- Prices Increased by Rs 8-10 across variants.
- Clinic Plus Shampoo- Gets Costlier by 15% across packs.
- Pears Soap (125 gm)- Gets costlier by 2.4% across packs.
- Ponds Talcum Powder- Gets costlier by 5-7% across packs.
- Glow and Lovely- Prices Hiked by 6-8%
- Lux Soap- Gets costlier by 9%
Since January 2022, this is the third round of price hikes by HUL. Earlier, they had hiked the prices of skin cleansing and detergent products by 3-20% and before that, in March they had raised the prices of grocery products like Coffee, Tea, Maggi etc.
The price hike announcement comes days after RBI announced the hike in repo rate by 40 basis points to control the rising inflation for the first time in 2 years.
Following the hike in lending rates, HUL CEO Sanjiv Mehta had said, “We have seen prices of toilet soaps, laundry products rising to current levels, we see a stress on consumption levels.”
Another reason for the price hike is due to the Russia – Ukraine war. Many supply chain disruptions were caused that led to increased input costs for these companies. They are running out of capacity to absorb them and hence seeing a price rise.
