Some of us like to take our own time to get things done while some of us like to finish work on time. However, finishing work before the deadline keeps you at peace and you can plan things ahead of time. Today we will share a few tips and tricks on how to be productive if you are running out of time.
- Apply Parkinson’s Law
Parkinson’s Law is the work expands to fill the time allotted for its completion. Northcote Parkinson explains in his book with an example that a woman whose only task is to send 1 postcard a day will take only 3 minutes to finish the task, but the woman takes an hour to find the card, another hour to look for her glasses and 90 minutes writing the card, 20 minutes to decide whether she must take an umbrella to her walk to the mailbox, and her day eventually comes to an end. So, if you want something done fast, set a short deadline and see how quickly you finish it.
- Avoid distractions
According to a study, an individual gets distracted every 13 minutes and takes 15 more minutes to focus, this leads to delay in your work and eventually your productivity. If you see this pattern, your 1-hour project might take 3 hours to finish.
- Organize your tasks
When you organize your tasks in different groups and timings, you can finish them off much faster. You can do this by making a to-do list of tasks and then grouping them according to your priority and convenience.
- The 80/20 rule
The 80/20 rule says that when you put in 20% of your efforts with perfection, 80% of your outcomes come out of it. Figure out the 20% and ignore the rest, you will get good results.
Lastly, you must know when to stop. Overworking yourself never bears positive results. Hence, think about your mental peace and don’t stress out.
