With 2,841 new coronavirus infections recorded in a single day, India’s total COVID-19 cases increased to 4,31,16,254, while active cases decreased to 18,604, according to statistics released today by the Union Health Ministry.
According to estimates updated at 8 a.m., the death toll has risen to 5,24,190, with nine lives lost.
The active COVID-19 caseload has fallen by 463 cases in the previous 24 hours.
The daily positive rate was 0.58 percent, while the weekly positivity rate was 0.69 percent, as per the health ministry.
The number of persons who have recovered from the sickness has risen to 4,25,73,460, with a case fatality rate of 1.22 percent. On August 7, 2020, India’s COVID-19 tally surpassed 20 lakh, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5, and 50 lakh on September 16.
It reached 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and one crore on December 19.
India passed the two crore mark on May 4 and the three crore mark on June 23.
According to the report, the nine deaths included eight from Kerala and one from Maharashtra.
The total number of doses provided in the country under the statewide COVID-19 immunisation effort has surpassed 190.99 crores.
“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that the state-wise distribution of figures is subject to further verification and reconciliation.
